ABOUT KUPU
Established in 2007, Kupu empowers future generations to create a more sustainable, pono Hawai'i.  We provide hands-on training programs that educate and mentor youth to become stewards of our culture and environment, helping them develop a strong connection to the place in which we live.  In doing so, we strive to fulfill our mission to empower youth to serve their communities through character-building, service-learning, and environmental stewardship opportunities that encourage pono (integrity) with Ke Akua (God), self, and others.


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Thank you for your interest in applying to the 'Imi i ka Lama Program at Haleakalā National Park!  This program is offered through Kupu, a Hawaii-based non-profit 501(c)(3).  The 'Imi i ka Lama Program will run from June 10 – August 2, 2019.

IMPORTANT:  This opportunity is located at Haleakalā National Park on the island of Maui.  All applicants must have or will have their own reliable housing and transportation.

Please Read Before Signing

  1. Members, if selected, are responsible for traveling to their island to begin their term.  Neither Kupu nor the host site is responsible for any travel or relocation expenses.

  2. Members must have their own housing within proximity of their host sites. Neither Kupu nor the host site is responsible for providing housing.

  3. Members must provide their own transportation to and from host sites. Neither Kupu nor the host site is responsible for providing regular transportation.

  4. Members must be available from Monday through Friday during their term, and able to participate in potential late night, early morning and/or weekend (or holiday) activities.

  5. Members must be able and willing to camp outdoors for an extended period of time. This may include actively working on rugged terrain, on/in the water and/or in poor weather conditions with minimal or no restroom facilities.

  6. Members must be able to safely perform the physical and mental duties of their position which may include long hikes, remote camping and using heavy tools.

  7. Members, if selected, must submit copies of a current government-issued Photo ID, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and a High School Diploma/Transcript or Equivalent.  Fingerprints will also be obtained for state and federal background checks.
