PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Nā Manu ʻElele Steward Program was created to support the sensitive natural and cultural sites that DLNR manages throughout the state of Hawaiʻi. Many of these sites have experienced negative impacts such as habitat loss, degradation, soil erosion, and mounting pressure on endangered species due to overcrowding, overuse, and unwanted behaviors. Based on the successful pilot at Pololū Trail on Hawaiʻi Island, the program will use local “stewards” to assist in interpreting the historic heritage, ecological importance, and community expectations of the area to ensure proper use and safety for all visitors.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. All applicants MUST READ the program requirements for the position they are applying for on the Nā Manu ʻElele website.

3. When finished, click "Submit". You will need to complete your electronic signature on the Final Review page, and then verify it via an emailed link.

Important Information:

Please note that the minimum age requirement to participate in this program is 17.

Host sites will adhere to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) precautions regarding COVID-19. All program Participants must adhere to their assigned host site's COVID-19 protocols and vaccination policies. If you are unable to meet these requirements, your offer will be withdrawn. We will do our best to place you at a different site, but there is no guarantee of placement.
